General Manager Position, Fertilizer and Seed Business
Interior Seed and Fertilizer is an East Kootenay based agricultural products supplier. We have served the Kootenays since 1988. The main focus of our business is the sale and application of fertilizer and seed for both agricultural and industrial clients. We purchase most of our products in bulk and blend and package in various sizes for delivery. We operate our own delivery and application equipment.
Interior Seed and Fertilizer is looking for a person to take over the position of General Manager and reporting to the president. The successful person will be taking over from the current GM who will be reducing hours towards full time retirement. The person best suited for this position will need to be a versatile individual with the motivation to oversee all aspects of our business.
Salary and benefits will depend on experience. ($55,000.00 to $85,000.00)
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the purchase and delivery of our seed and fertilizer inventory including product quality control and costing.
- Prepare budget forecasts for product volumes.
- Work with clients to develop fertilizer and/or seed prescriptions and coordinate the delivery and/or application. This will include farm and industrial client site visits.
- Oversee and schedule the seasonal fertilizer and seed plant crew, and the day to day product production.
- Provide quotes and recommendations for both seed and fertilizer and follow up with delivery and invoicing.
- Forklift operation.
- Coordinate and interpret soil sampling and results.
- Be responsible to oversee the safety of our staff and the safe operation of our equipment.
- Be prepared to assist with walk in customers.
- Maintain our seed operations in conjunction with the Canadian Seed Institue and our Quality Manual.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A degree in Agriculture or relevant experience.
- Management training and or experience.
- Ability to work with diverse personalities and preferences.
- A well rounded and/or relevant experience in Ag business fundamentals for the business as well as customers.
- A current accredited forage Seed Grader certificate to maintain our “Qualified Seed Blending Establishment``
